The old man lit the lamps last night. This morning, the whole town swears he never existed. Your journal says otherwise.
The Lamplighter is a complete, system-agnostic cosmic-horror one-shot for a single evening of play. You stop for the night in Vesper Combe, a small mountain town at the end of one road. By morning, the lamplighter who waved you in has been quietly erased, not killed, unremembered, smoothed out of the world until it is as if he never was. Everyone in town agrees, kindly, that there was never any lamplighter. You are the only ones who know better, because you wrote it down.
What follows is one night of the gentlest, saddest horror there is: pulling at the seam between your record and a town that cannot see the hole, and deciding what you are willing to do for one ordinary, unmourned man when the thing erasing him is a patient new star you cannot fight.
The full scenario (read-aloud pitch, GM truth, cast, a four-movement night, the climax and its endings), a GM toolkit for running quiet existential horror, and print-ready player handouts.
This single night is the opening of Nightglass: Campaign Codex + GM Kit, the full season where the lamplighter was only the first, and the whole town must decide what it will do to stay real. A perfect, low-cost way to try the world before you run the campaign.
Mature cosmic horror: themes of disappearance, grief, and memory loss, handled with dread rather than gore. Includes a safety tools note. A personal-use digital download.
